@staff loving the new update. having my screen split in half and seeing an enlarged version of a mobile theme is exactly what i wanted to happen when i click someone’s url. i’m glad it’s finally happened. for the next update i was thinking we could just shut peoples laptops off when they click a url. i have a lot more ideas like this just contact me at this inbox

how do i get to anyone’s freaking blog other than opening a new tab and typing their url in?

Right click, then ‘open link in new tab.’

Works on Google Chrome, but I don’t know about other browsers.

Same for IE.

That “sutting people’s laptops off when they click on a URL” HAS BEEN KNOWN TO HAPPEN TO ME FOR A WHILE NOW, BTW.

Except I don’t even have to fucking CLICK anything when that happens, the moment I hover my mouse over the wrong link and tumblr’s fucking pop-up panel comes to life, my browser and basically everything but my mouse freezes and the only thing that helps is turning the computer off and on again.

THANKS SO FUCKING MUCH TUMBLR.

Age Ranges of Tumblr’s Global Audience:Tumblr sees about 150 million global unique visitors monthly. comScore, an Internet analytics firm, averaged Tumblr’s age ranges over the first quarter of 2014 for both Dashboard and blog network traffic worldwide:
Ages 13 to 17: 15%
Ages 18 to 34: 41%
Ages 35 to 54: 29%
Ages 55 and up: 15%
"People are often really surprised to note that we have the same percentage of 55-plus-year-olds as we do 13-to-17-year-olds," said Danielle Strle (strle), Tumblr’s director of product for community and content, in an NPR webinar. “But over half of our audience is solidly in the 13-to-34 demographic.”

As I have said before, the “reblog if you’re over 30!” counts are deceptively low because we can’t be fuckin’ bothered to reblog every damned “I identify as this and I will now dance the Identification Reblog Tango” that comes around.I think those things are great for teens and young adults who are figuring out who they are, trying on different identities, and being both thrilled and comforted to find that not only are they not alone, but that there are thousands upon thousands upon thousands of people like them. That’s vital. If tumblr had been around when I was in my teens and twenties, I’d have been all over that kind of defiant celebration of unity.Once you’re in your 30s and 40s though, you usually have a pretty good idea of who you are, and there is very little urge to join the “reblog this if you’re X!” thing, because you’ve been “X” for a decade or more and, you know, the laundry just dinged and you have to order in dinner tonight and your go-to restaurant is closing in 30 minutes and the cat just overturned the garbage and you want to read forty more things before you HAVE to go to sleep or you will not function at work tomorrow and blah blah blah. It’s not that we’re not here in huge numbers. It’s that we don’t really care all that much about proving it anymore.(Except when someone posts that their fandom was the VERY FIRST FANDOM EVER fandom to do this or that or some other thing. Then we’ll show up in droves :D )

Authenticator app

How the hell do I get tumbler to send me the code to the google authenticator app? It keeps sending it via email even though I’ve specified the app in the setting. Am I missing a step?

Setting up AO3 Feeds on Tumblr

omnicat:

astolat:

I’ve worked out a pretty easy way to get AO3 fandom notifications on tumblr using the IFTTT service, yay. :) If there’s a fandom where you’d like to get all the story notifications on your dash, here’s how to do it:

1) See if someone else has already done all the work for you by looking in the #ao3feed announcement tag or just seeing if there’s an ao3feed-[fandom] blog already set up. If so, follow that blog. You’re done!

2) If not, set up a tumblr blog and named it ao3feed-[fandom] so other people can find it easily (eg, I’ve created ao3feed-thor for the Thor movie). You can use whatever theme you want. Keep in mind the entries are all going to be plain text.

3) Go to ifttt, create an account for this feed, activate the Tumblr channel, and select the new ao3feed-whatever blog as the blog that the account will post to. (At the time I write this, ifttt.com only allows you to post to one tumblr blog per account, so you have to make a new ifttt account for each feed you want to set up. Annoying!)

4) Now you need the AO3 feed URL: browse to the fandom that you want to follow on the AO3 and copy the URL from the RSS feed:

5) Go to the ifttt recipe I’ve created for AO3 feeds and REPLACE the Thor feed URL with the one you just copied.

6) Also add one or more tags for your fandom:

7) Click “Use Recipe”

8) Hover anxiously over the Tumblr blog refreshing until the first story appears. (This won’t happen until someone posts a new story to that fandom tag! So if you have made a feed for Super Obscure Fandom you may have a wait, alas.)

9) Tell people you’ve set up a new feed under the #ao3feed announcement hashtag!

(who knows, might come in handy someday)

For all that I bitch about it, thank god for the tumblr app because really, how else would I be able to type this while lying in bed upside down? For some reason, that seems to be the most comfortable position right now.

(But I’ll have to get up soon, I have tutorials to make and memes to answer! )
